At least we have a provincial government not blinded by ideology that is capable of seeing reality and dealing in common sense.

We are dealing with the result of NDP energy policy, imagine if they had been allowed to continue after 2019 or resume their path after May 2023?

Imagine a provincial government in lockstep with the ideologically climate/insane currently running Ottawa.

I really hope Smith is looking hard and close at this, and is not too distracted by all the attacks she is facing due to the common sense policy initiatives announced this week.

We need to be aware that the exact same groups will attack any common sense initiatives focused on the grid as well.

Great analogy.. The biggest issue I see before us is the fact that we, the consumer have no idea when our grid is being tested unless a warning is sent out. We all go about consuming power with absolutely no knowledge of when the system is under or over supplied. Real time power pricing is the only way to allow the market to take care of itself. In a normal market place the best cure for high prices is "high prices". People consume less, residents look at the economics of installing home battery systems to by power when the price is low and sell it when the price is high. As well as opening up other novel ways to flatten the grid supply and demand. Which is what we all want..

Great article love that you broke it down and used common sense language to get your facts on the table. I’d like to add to the comments that followed, having been in the industry and seeing some of the mistakes our previous Alberta government made (NDP).

Our energy minister needs to review past decisions that postponed or canceled renewable project over past 1-7 years. Please note the megawatt potential and minimal costs of those projects referring to timing for engineering, costs to purchase land and SCM requirements then vs now.

Further research on mega projects from 2010 to 2017 that our PC government promoted and completed. These mega projects WATL and EATL as examples of two out of over a dozen that helped the infrastructure

Transmission grid stabilize and be prepared for renewables to be added.

Conclusions look to past facts that worked in our favor and those poor decisions that put Alberta in the unfavourable position we face today. As noted in the article!
